Diabetes

Diabetes

Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which there are high blood-sugar levels over a prolonged period.
Diabetes is due to either the pancreas not producing enough insulin or the cells of the body not responding properly to the insulin produced.

The cause of type 1 diabetes is still unknown and it is not preventable with current knowledge.
Many of the risk factors for type 2 diabetes include lifestyle decisions and can be eliminated or reduced with more healthy diets and regular exorcise.

Animal models

In animal models we roughly have the same two areas. One is type 1 diabetes coming from animals with spontaneously developing autoimmune diabetes to chemical ablation of the pancreatic beta cells. Type 2 diabetes comes in both obese and non-obese animal models with varying degrees of insulin resistance and beta cell failure.

Feed intake are a very important area to address in the studies of diabetes. MBRose have developed different products for both rodents and pigs to measure individual consumption and the behavior around it. These products are thoroughly tested by valued partners in the industry.
