Obesity

Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide

Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.

Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide and increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis. Obesity is most commonly caused by a combination of excessive food energy intake, lack of physical activity, and genetic susceptibility, although a few cases are caused primarily by genes, endocrine disorders, medications, or psychiatric illness.

Diet induced obesity

Whether you work with monogenic rats with fa or cp mutations or polygenic mice with some genomic failures you can diet induce obesity(DIO) by feeding these animals with 60% fat diet. They will fairly quick become obese and are great models for exploring the increasing prevalence of obesity and even more the mechanisms behind it.

Feed intake are a very important area to address in the studies of obesity. MBRose have developed different products for both rodents and pigs to measure individual consumption and the behavior around it. These products are thoroughly tested by valued partners in the industry.
